This is the first in a triptych of pieces painted from August 16-20, painting the same time each day on the three pieces—which was quite an exhausting feat. I wanted to try Monet’s technique working like this, changing to the next piece when the light changed. This was one of my favorites of the group. I started each morning by 6 am and quit by 8 am. There was a beautiful marine layer that created this lavender, atmospheric light. When viewed in the dim natural light in which it was created, this painting glows magically, recreating this early morning garden view by the sea.
