This was a thrilling painting to create, standing on the bluff looking toward Discovery Bay. To some, these paintings appear to be merely grey. Actually they are mixed from a full, prismatic palette (no black, few if any earth tones) by using complementary colors mixing them down until I approach grey but not yet neutral. I love the lavender-taupe tones in this painting. As I worked the lightest rain filled the air, almost a heavy mist, lending a tender evanescence to the scene.
